Saturday Mornings, 10am. Pay What You Want! A fully improvised theatrical journey through tales of the audience’s making! This hilarious, high energy production invites audience members to help make the stories happen or to just sit back and enjoy the ride! A great, theatrical way to spend a Saturday morning.
WTSS? is Coldtowne’s resident “Improv for Youth Troupe” and features a cast of experienced adult performers, including Steve the improvising poodle. Featured in Free Fun Austin, and Austin Culture Map as a one of five kid-friendly places that definitely don’t suck – these shows are pay what you want (recommended donation of $3 to $5) and appropriate for audiences of all ages, but often most enjoyed by those 3 to 12.
What brought Move Your Tale and ColdTowne together? Storytelling and Improvisation naturally complement one another. By combining our efforts to build a Performing Arts Program for Youth, we create a unique opportunity for kids to both perform and to watch live performance created for young audiences. An emphasis is placed on playful, positive collaboration, listening and supporting, creating in the moment, and telling stories that are meaningful both to the performer and to the listener. Also, it’s crazy fun.
Every Sunday at 5 PM we turn the theater over to performers and audience members under 18. Each Teen Improv Night features an all youth improv troupe and a local adult improv troupe performing material appropriate for every member of the family. Following these shows, audience members and performers are invited to join us onstage for an open improv jam. This is a great opportunity to see improv performed by peers, by experienced, trained improvisers, and then to give it a try yourself! Pay what you want. Parents are totally welcome!
